My 2009 Picks...
Two models that caught my eye this year were Rosie Hungtington-Whiteley and R'el.
R'el (pronounced R-E-L) also came to my attention during this summer and has somehow managed to blow up very quickly this past fashion season. Her alien like look makes her ever so appealling and it will be interesting to see how 2010 measure's up for her, even though I am sure she will go from strength to strength.
David Koma is currently living every fashion design students dream. Fresh out of university, pieces from his autumn/winter '09/'10 collection that he debuted in the infamous Central Saint Martins graduate show have been snatched up by stylists to clothe the likes of Cheryl Cole, Rihanna and Beyonce, and he has since shown his spring/summer 2010 collection during London Fashion Week. Rumour has it that David Koma will be showing again at London Fashion Week this coming February, which I cannot wait to see what he produces. David Koma's future appears to be as bright as his spring summer collection - if not brighter.
Amber Rose really and truely should have been the girl we love to hate - an ex-stripper and video girl turned rapper's (Kanye)arm candy. Instead, her ability merge Chic with Street kept us all interested. 2009 is drawing to a close, yet I am still trying to figure out what it is about her that makes it work. Is it the way she carries herself? It must be. Who else can be a [uk] size 12 (I'm guessing) with a generous backside, rock a level 1 cut, and can still bag a spread in Elle?
Jameela Jamil, who also caught my eye this year, has gone from strength to strength in such a short space of time and is being hailed as the next Alexa Chung. The way she she doesn't care and wears crop tops with short-shorts as well as her self-deprecating humour makes her so loveable. I mean as tall and stunning as she is, you'd expect her to be... otherly? But she seems down to earth, and well just... normal.
