Brow (e-)Raising

There are some trends that when they emerge you're convinced that they will never go mainstream and even if they did you would never follow. However, a month or so later you come to accept the fact that said trend is popular ith the masses, and yes, you have succumbed to it. Well, the dissappearing eyebrows is one trend that I am praying never goes mainstream and if it does I wont be following.

I never understood the hype behind model Lara Stone-the hype being that she has bleach blonde eyebrows or none at all (to be honest,I haven't cared enough to take a proper look) but it seems like her look is catching on.

The Balenciaga and Prada's Autumn/Winter 09/10 models worked the runway eyebrow-less

and now Givenchy's new ad campaign is throwing this hairless thing in our face-heck even some of the Big Brother contestants aren't wearing any eyebrows.

I was reading the Grazia blog and they did a post on Cheryl Cole's new eyebrows, and it amazing how much changing how much hair is on your face can alter your look.
Although I like them on her, this is one of the reasons why I've been so scared to let someone near my brows and prefer to do them myself. One mistake and your going to look different for a few weeks until they grow back, fortunately for me, I've been blessed with an alright shaped pair of eyebrows so I only need to remove a couple of strays. And if you don't believe me on how much eyebrows can change your look, take a peep at the Daily Mail's article on it - especially the digitally altered pictures at the bottom.

As much as I don't want this trend to catch on I think it will. I see too many women that have shaved of their eyebrows only to draw them back on, and once this trend surfaces, all it's going to take is a woman who normally draws 'em on to have an off day decide not to bother. It didn't look nice when Mona lisa did it, and we know just how scary Elizabeth the first looked with no eyebrows... lets just leave it alone. Please.

Strutt Girl: Carmen Solomons

Name: Carmen Solomons
Agency: Storm Model Management
Age: 17
Height: 5’9"
Nationality:South African

I have been seing Carmen's face on the blogosphere for well over a year now, and I just can't seem to get away from her face as of late. She reminds me of Rihanna in the face dont you think? She has really intruiging features... android chic? (If that term catches on I want credit for it) so I decided to check out more of her work.

WAH Nails

I've always had a thing about nails from a young age. It comes from watching my mum do nail art on her fingernails and toenails trying her hardest to keep her hand steady and trying to match her right finger nails to her left. I tend to keep it simple because I simply do not have the patience to do all the nail art myself. Also, as I work in retail, my freshly painted talons usually become chipped by the end of the day.

However, I came across the WAH Nails blog, and now I'm tempted to pay them a visit when they open and get my nails did. If you're in the area, check them out...

My Take On: Grunge

With this whole 90's revival that surfacing, I decided to do my own take on it. However, as there were many different genres in the nineties, I decided that my first stop was going to be 'Grunge'.

Pump Up the Volume

I have a slight obsession with hair, that I believe stems from the traumatic experiences I had growing up that came in the form of hair cuts, hair breakage, ugly do's etc... I love big, shiny, voluminous hair and if I weren't so scared of wearing long weaves, I would be sewing in 24" of hair a la Naomi Campbell in a heartbeat.

I was dossing* about on youtube a while ago, and came across a user-Ashley Victoria that has several dope videos on how to achieve certain looks. I particularly like them as she has done looks inspired by some of my hair inspirations (Beyonce & Kim Kardashian to name 2). Yes, I have hair inspirations, and before you laugh at me I'm sure you do to. They may not even be celeb's but you may have seen a chick out on road with a hairstyle that has inspired you to do something about your barnet.

* dossing about is UK slang wasting time/not doing anything constructive.

She makes the looks seem so easy to recreate which I love.

btw,
I saw this picture whilst googling Mariah and kinda cracked me up. This picture is old I know but with everyone (Alice Dellal, Cassie, Lala, Rihanna) going for the half baldie, I thought it was fitting for this picture to resurface

Photoshop's a bitch.

Looks From the Book

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

When I'm supposed to be doing something constructive with my time, I normally end up on a street style blog or a what are you wearing today-type site. Lookbook is one of the sites that I love as the photography is on point (that is me assuming that some of the users take the pictures themseves with a tripod). I've tried a number of times to capture what I am wearing on camera as I did say before that I wanted to include that feature on this site. However the photo's I take are horrendous so they always end up in the recycle bin.

The pictures above are of what took my fancy whilst I was scrolling through the site today-smart-girly casual and underwear all the elements I've been feeling for a while now, and clothing that has also been slowly creeping into my wardrobe.

To see more of their looks, search their name on the Lookbook site.

The Ultimate Tutu

As you guys are aware, my posts slowed down a lot recently. Infact I was hardly posting at all, but it was for a good reason. I recently just handed in the start to a project where my inspiration was ballet. The idea came to me after watching this video of a performance Ballerina Elena Glurdjize did for Karl Lagerfeld in the Chanel Couture Salon:

I have never noticed the movement of a ballerina and how beautful it is (I sound like such a sap right now). When I saw the colour pictures of the dress that was designed by Lagerfeld I just knew I had to do something ballet orientated for my project.

So in about a years time, I'll show you guys my ballet inspired collection, and hopefully you'll like it.

I'm not sure how I feel about this collection. It just looks like a mish mash of what girls on the street have been wearing, which isn't bad, but the fact that they're going to be selling a look to us that we've already been wearing at a ridiculous price is.

Blur(ry) Inspiration

Jeans, Fred Perry Perry Top, and Casio watch all from Urban Outfitters.

I've been wanting to post this for ages but I just didn't have the time, so here's my feeble attempt to do it whilst i've still got some spare time.
When it comes to music I have a lot of guilty pleasures and dirty secrets, but when it comes to Blur, I have no shame in professing my love for them. I'm mad that I wasn't able to check them out at their comeback in Hyde Park cos their songs take me back to when I was little. One of the music videos that will forever stick out in my mind is the video for Blur's "Song 2".

It's such a simple video (as in there's only 1 location) but whatever it was that they did with it makes it a standout one.

It leaves me thinking about the 90s and I've noticed how touches of the 90s are slowly creeping back into fashion (crop tops, plaid, ripped denim). I can't believe I'm saying this but the tacky-ness makes me so nostalgic that I want to re-visit it (style wise) and I'll be dropping a few 90s fashion post soon [there's so many angles to look at] so be on the look out.

Vogue Italia July '09: Supermodels

I love this editorial, [Naomi looks baaad!] because it's all about hair. Well, actually it's a beauty ed but as I'm seeing 26+ inches of virgin hair on Ms Campbell and the hottest waves on Christy, it's all about hair for me.
